Win In MirthQuake's Kitchen

I am cooking up some birds today. Again & of course. I have the honour of doing a custom order for some one whose name I will not disclose at this moment. The special person that will receive the illustrations might be watching.

But I can show you a part of the drawing. It is a view of the drawing that shows each penstroke I made. Each time my pen touches the tablet a stroke is made. On this picture you can see the strokes of the bottom half of the first mystery bird. The branch the bird is sitting on alone already consists of 900 strokes. No wonder I have to rest my hand once in a while to recover. The belly of teh bird consists of thousands of strokes.
I like the view of this. It looks like an etch or woodburning pattern.
Can anyone guess exactly what bird it is going to be?
The first person who guesses it right gets the print signed in their mailbox!
This is going to be a very special limited edition.

the Lovebirds!

They're finally done, the lovebirds. And someone already approached me to buy them for a loved one. That's exactly who they're meant for!

In our backyard there was a blue tit, he was browsing through the gardens with a bunch of great tits, always waiting for them to get their share and then helping himself with some food. But since a month or so I am seeing 2 blue tits with the gang of tits. He has found a friend! This morning as I was gazing out of the window of my bedroom to postpone the reality of having to get up, I saw one blue tit checking out the bird house in the garden! Just very very briefly, as if it was a no strings attached meeting with his real estate broker, just a very quick peek inside the house to see if the family would fit. If that is a good or bad thing I don't know. Either he needed to rush to the missus to tell her he found the spot they would grow old together, or he thought" This dump?"...and left it to the spiders. Time will tell, the thing I am happy about is that he is no longer alone.

SNEAK PEEK!

As I mentioned before, my newest work will be about the blue tit. I researched this sweetie and found that he communicates with his lover through UV rays and by flashing his blue hat at her. Sexy! And this morning as I was gazing out of the window of my bedroom to postpone the reality of having to get up, I saw one blue tit checking out the bird house in the garden! Just very very briefly, as if it was a no strings attached meeting with his real estate broker, just a peek inside the house to see if the family would fit. I gasped for air and he had seen enough. If that is a good or bad thing I don't know. Either he needed to rush to the missus to tell her he found the spot they would grow old together, or he thought" This dump?"...and left it to the spiders. Time will tell, the thing I am happy about is that he recognised it as a home.

The unbelievable thing about these birdies is that they mark the opening of a birdhouse with a cut in the wood. They do that with their bills of course, and then other blue tits know the house is sold to the previous couple. This afternoon I checked the birdhouse for markings of course. No sold sign in the front yard of the mansion yet.

Also I found that in almost all languages except Dutch, the blue tit is called "blue" . In Dutch it is Pimpelmees, which actually makes you think it is a purple-ish type of bird.

The Tit Gang

Blue tits are the sweetest, they aren't quite as cheeky as the Great tits are, but still very active and funny to watch. I am a little hestitant to be talking about blue tits because frankly I feel a bit like Beavis and Butthead when they discussed the planet Uranus. I have the urge to emphasize that I am talking about BIRDS, (in the UK they wouldn't be assured by that addition either). So for the record, I am going to keep on talking about tits and mind you I not talking about boobies.

In our backyard there was one, he was browsing through the gardens with a bunch of great tits, always waiting for them to get their share and then helping himself with some food. But since a month or so I am seeing 2 blue tits with the gang of tits. He has found a friend- Yeyhey!
So now I have placed a birdhouse by the shed(facing east-2 metres high- not in the full sun) so I am hoping that it will result in lots of fun watching their kids grow up(assuming they're a couple). If I could I would put up tons of birdhouses. but apparently they don't like overcrowdedness, and I might end up with tons of empty ones. So I put my bet on one for starters!
When I see the birdhouse I think of my granddad. I gave him a birdhouse of cardboard once. I was 9 years old or so, and I now recall they lived on the 5th floor of a flat. No bird ever came near that house. But they adored it I am sure of it! There is something promising about a birdhouse. It has the potential to bring nature close to you and perhaps you get to see the sweet little birds grow up. There's cuteness, cosyness and a good-old-times-feel in them.
Right now I am working on my drawing about these 2 blue tits.

Pictured here is the blue tit that joined the Great Tit Gang.

Clark's Nutcracker- DONE!

She's my ode to Alberta.

While the squirrels are too busy being cute they forget where they stored their food reserves for winter. But not this clever lass. She knows EXACTLY where she kept the pine seeds. In numerous places in the ground she stored an abundance of goodies. Not only for herself but also for the new trees that will grow out of them. That is how clever this girl is! She takes care of herself this independent bird! Oh and don't forget those squirrels that plunder her supplies, but she doesn't mind. It just proves that she was right- AGAIN!
